English Section - Monkeys!

This week, the children in the Monkeys’ class have enjoyed playing some team games on the interactive whiteboard. These games have helped them practise their vocabulary around the different topics we have studied, as well as work together and communicate in English. The game ‘Wheel of Riches’ on Linguascope is a particular favourite, and they have all been very competitive!

On Thursday, the children spoke and wrote about themselves. They began the day sorting words into groups of nouns, verbs and adjectives, and then used the adjectives to describe their physical appearance and personality. They enjoyed having a go at drawing the other side of their faces!

The children also looked at some more advance vocabulary associated with homes and houses. They described the types of houses that they live in, in their home countries and they rooms that are in them!

The children enjoyed reading, watching and retelling the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’. They worked in groups to order the story sections, using sequencing cards, then retell the story using a story map, and lastly, retell the story orally to the class. All the children spoke clearly and were not afraid to try, even when they were not sure of the correct English words to use; it was lovely to see the children helping each other.

A big welcome to all our new students!

The new children took part in a range of activities and assessments yesterday to place them in the correct class for their level.

This morning we had a fire practice to make sure all the children know the procedure.

The aged 7-9 advanced English class (Lions) have enjoyed the last 2 weeks completing Literacy work based around the book Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl.

They have listened to and read sections of the book followed by completing speaking and listening drama and role play activities to fully understand the story line and characters.

They have written character descriptions using thesauruses to find powerful adjectives, punctuated direct speech and dialogues and written newspaper reports, diary entries and letters in the role of one of the characters. They enjoyed watching the film and comparing it to the book.

A big welcome to all our new students!

French Section

Dans la classe des loups, les élèves sont allés au magasin avec leur liste pour acheter les ingrédients nécessaires à la confection de sushis qu'ils ont ensuite réalisés sous l'oeil connaisseur de Noé.

C'était très bon !

English Section

The Monkeys class started the week by getting to know each other, whilst practising their speaking skills. In groups, they played a ‘Getting to know you’ board game and had to answer different questions about themselves along the way!

On Wednesday, the Monkeys were talking and writing about themselves using adjectives to describe their appearance and that of family members. They also attempted to draw the other side of a photo of their own face, in order to help them with their descriptions!

We have also been looking at word classes and the Monkeys have been sorting words, to identify the nouns, verbs and adjectives. This was a paired activity, which meant the children had to work together and communicate in English.

Today we have been working on the topic of houses and where we live. The Monkeys have labelled the rooms in a typical house and written about objects in each room, using sentences that begin with ‘there is or there are’. They also answered questions in a listening exercise on the topic of houses.

We also read the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and the children worked in small groups to retell the story using a story map and then present it orally to the class.
