La Garenne Music: Learning Through Performance

Following La Garenne’s first Jazz Concert, held this Monday in collaboration with the Villars Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, we are delighted to shine a spotlight on our outstanding Music Department and the vibrant musical culture that continues to grow within our school.

At La Garenne, music is built on a simple philosophy: students learn music best by playing it. From the very first weeks in the programme, students are actively making music on instruments and working together in ensembles. Our Junior, Middle, and Senior School Bands allow students to develop their skills step by step while experiencing the excitement of performing as a group. Regular weekly performance opportunities help students build confidence, musicianship, and a strong sense of musical community.

Beyond classroom music-making, students can deepen their learning through GCSE Music, regular concerts and end-of-term performances, inspiring workshops with visiting musicians, and weekly private lessons with specialist instrumental teachers. The result is a vibrant and dynamic music programme where students play often, perform frequently, and grow as musicians together.

Monday’s Jazz Concert was a wonderful reflection of this spirit, and we extend our sincere thanks to the Villars Vanguard Jazz Orchestra for joining us for this magical evening of music.
