In our eyes, sports, recreational and cultural activities are extremely important in the development of a child. As well as enriching a child, these activities support his or her wellbeing, evolution and integration. Conscious of the importance of these non-academic periods, during the school year, the school allocates late afternoon and weekends to such activities. Sport, leisure, relaxation, discovery, friendships and personal development are key ingredients of a stay at La Garenne.
Philosophy behind the activities
As heirs to the Swiss educational tradition and guarantors of the balance of your children, we provide our boarders with situations which enable them to develop physically and intellectually; ‘Anima Sana in Corpore Sano’ (sound mind, sound body). The school provides a broad range of sports, arts and cultural activities taught by our creative and safety-conscious team of experts. We vary and renew the programme so that the children can benefit by perfecting their knowledge, sharing their passion and discovering new abilities.

Some examples of the activities practiced by La Garenne during the year
- Individual and team sports : football, basketball, volleyball, hockey, rugby, ultimate Frisbee, baseball, tennis, swimming, badminton.
- Adventure sports and mountain sports : hiking, climbing, assault courses & rope bridge walking, via ferrata, canyoning, orienteering, ice-skating, cabin building, expeditions, camp fire evenings. In winter: skiing, snowboarding, sledging, ice-skating, ice hockey, igloo- building.
- Recreational activities and relaxation : trampolining, table tennis, cycling along the lakeside, swimming, cinema, laser game, giant maze, water park, bowling.
- Cultural and educational : Museum visits (Olympic museum, food museum), historic visits (castles, historic villages), discovering Swiss traditions (cheese-making, chocolate-making and bell-making), artistic activities (painting, music, classical concerts).
- Fun and games : evening events (discos, costume parties), varied performances (dance, theatre, singing), large-scale mountain picnics and outdoor games (role-playing, treasure hunts, etc.), giant chess, card tournaments, mountain evenings.
